A very fine icon of this important event. At top, Christ triumphant over death standing over his empty tomb with Roman Soldiers below him. In the upper left corner Peter finds the empty tomb and burial shroud. Below, Christ stands atop the broken gates of Hades and reaches down to free the righteous men & women from bondage. Behind Christ the Old Testament men & women climb the stairway to Heaven. At lower right an angel binds Hades, a demonic looking creature.
