Pectoral crosses for priests
appeared in Russian Orthodox Church quite recently.
Till the 18th century only bishops had the right to carry pectoral
crosses. In the 19th century crosses with ornaments started to be given
out to archpriests as the award.
The state decree from May 14, 1896 entered into the church use a cross
being the distinction of any priest and celibate priest.
You can find such crosses in our collection. |
