Extra thin face painting combined with superior colorific gamma - gold assist equally great looks on the dark-cherry cloth of maphorios (a large veil covering the head and shoulders of the Virgin) and on the scarlet garments of the Holy Child. The icon was cleaned from the darkened layer of drying oil.
