The icon Our Lady of Bogolyubovo has known since XII century and has received a name from Prince Andrei Bogolyubsky of Suzdal in 1158 monastery near city Vladimira. Prince Andrei , the son of great Prince of Kiev George Vladimirovich, had been after long and persistent requests released by the father to Suzdal to govern in their native city. For blessing Prince of Kiev gave to the son a miracle-working icon from the Vyshgorod female monastery. The Virgin appears by Prince and said him to stop on those places and establish a monastery. During the long time all princes of Moscow were praying for this icon. After the rescue of a plague in 1771y. in Vladimir region was established church celebration in monastery.

The icons with the image Our Lady of Bogolyubovo received a wide circulation among monks. The reverence of the icon is especially characteristic of Vladimir-Suzdal region and Moscow. There are no icons with this plot in Novgorod, Pskov or in northern areas of Russia
