14. St. Paraskeva Pjatnica

First half of the 19th century. Central Russia.
Wood, lewkas, tempera.
Size: 52,5x44x3 cm.

It is painted with egg tempera over a leaf of gold. Good condition.

Paraskeva means actually 5th day of the week in Greek language or Friday. It is just as the result of a misconception among early Eastern Slavs that Paraskeva has transformed into an actual Saint figure - Paraskeva-Friday.
